Fishing Fort Pierce with the kids: a 3-bedroom base

The Fort Pierce Inlet with the jetty and fishing boats heading out to the Atlantic on a clear morning

The short answer: the three-bedroom home we manage in Fort Pierce is the Cozy Coastal Fort Pierce Private Pool Home. Three bedrooms, sleeps six, private pool behind a screened lanai, grill out back, pets welcome. It sits inland, in a quiet residential pocket about ten minutes from historic downtown and around twenty from the beach, which is a layout that suits fishing families better than it sounds. You're not paying for a dock you won't use. You're paying for a yard the kids can be dumped into at two in the afternoon when the charter is over and everyone is sunburnt and slightly feral.

Why an inland house is the sensible call for a charter trip

Most sport-fishing weekends in Fort Pierce don't actually launch from your driveway. They launch from the City Marina in historic downtown, where the Last Mango, a forty-foot custom sport-fish, runs full days daily, or from Causeway Cove, where the Miss Fort Pierce party boat works. The Fort Pierce Lady, a seventy-footer, sits at the mouth of the inlet. If you've booked a charter, the boat is already in the water and the captain already has the ice. What you need from a house is a short drive to a marina parking lot at an unkind hour, and somewhere good to come back to.

Which reframes the whole search. The waterfront listings that dominate the Fort Pierce results are built for people bringing their own boat. If you're not towing, that dock is a view, and you'll pay for it.

The Cozy Coastal house is set up for the rest of the day. The pool is screened, which means you can sit out at dusk without being eaten, and that matters more on the Treasure Coast than anyone mentions until the first evening. There's a grill and an outdoor dining table for whatever came back in the cooler, a proper oven and stove, a blender, and a washer and dryer for the clothes that smell like bait by Sunday. Bedrooms run king, queen, and a twin daybed with a trundle, so it handles two adults and two or three kids without anyone drawing the sofa. There's a crib if you're travelling with a baby. A laundromat is nearby if the trip goes long.

Where to fish when the charter day is over

Half the fishing on a family trip is the unplanned kind, and Fort Pierce is generous about it. Jetty Park out on Seaway Drive has a pier running more than a thousand feet, and the jetty itself is a known local spot, best early, where anglers pull snook, jack crevalle, sheepshead, snapper and ladyfish. Kids can fish it. You can walk away from it when they get bored. The Square Grouper Tiki Bar and the Jetty Lounge are right there when that happens.

The inlet has parks strung along it besides Jetty: Moore's Creek, South Beach, Maravilla. Fort Pierce Inlet State Park sits out on Shorewinds Drive, and the run from I-95 is straightforward, east on Orange Avenue to US 1, north through downtown, then right onto A1A and over the causeway. If you want a lunch that keeps the fishing theme going without you cooking, Cobb's Landing is in the City Marina itself, open-air, music on, boats in front of you.

Stan Blum and Black Pearl are the two boat ramps charter operators most often give as pickup points. Worth knowing which one your captain means before 5am, because they're not next door to each other.

If there are more than six of you

Three bedrooms is three bedrooms, and six is six. When the trip turns into two families or a group of fishing buddies plus spouses, the Fort Pierce homes we manage go up in steps, and only one of them is genuinely built around the water.

  • McCarty Mansion sits on Indian River Drive with seven bedrooms, six baths, a heated pool, a sauna and a private dock on the Indian River. This is the one for a group bringing a boat: two boat lifts are on the property and available to rent, and the Fort Pierce Inlet gives you ocean access from there. There's a playground for whoever is too small to care about any of it.
  • Sunrise Social House is near downtown, five bedrooms across a main house and a detached guest house, with a private pool, a fire pit, and a game room running air hockey, billiards and table tennis. It's the one for a reunion where half the party has no intention of getting on a boat.
  • Casita del Sol is four bedrooms a short distance from downtown, with a pool, a backyard fire pit and a workspace if someone has to log on mid-trip.

Going the other way, Golf View Townhome has two bedrooms and beach access, which works for a couple or a small family if three bedrooms was a preference rather than a requirement.

Four things to settle with us before you book

Fishing trips have logistics that beach trips don't, and the answers are house-specific rather than universal. Message us and we'll confirm for your dates:

  • Gear and catch. Where rods and coolers live, and what's allowed by way of cleaning or prepping fish at the house.
  • The trailer. If you're towing a boat, ask about parking before you commit. Driveway dimensions and street rules differ from house to house.
  • The dock at McCarty Mansion. If you're booking it for the water, confirm the dock and lift arrangements for your stay.
  • Your marina. Tell us which charter you've booked. Different operators leave from different sides of the inlet, and that changes which house makes the morning easier.

Booking it

We manage these homes ourselves, up and down the Treasure Coast: Fort Pierce, Port St. Lucie, Jensen Beach, Vero Beach, Sebastian, Jupiter, Palm Beach Gardens, West Palm Beach. That means self check-in, which matters when your flight lands late and your boat leaves early, kitchens stocked properly enough to cook what you caught, fast Wi-Fi, hotel-level cleaning, and someone on the end of a phone at any hour. Book direct with us and tell us what the trip is for. We'll point you at the right house.
