Three-bedroom homes in Sebastian for a treasure-fleet trip

The Sebastian Inlet where the Indian River Lagoon meets the Atlantic, with the fishing pier on the north side

Four of our Sebastian houses have three bedrooms, and any of them works as a base for the museums: Sebastian Serenity - 3BR/2BA home near beaches, Sebastian Serenity- A Heated Pool Home, Sunkissed Haven, and Paradise Bliss! Heated Pool NearBoat Ramp & Beach. The first three sleep eight; Paradise Bliss sleeps six. That single number is the fork in the road for most groups, and it's worth settling before you start comparing kitchens.

The thing nobody tells you about chasing Sebastian's maritime history is that it isn't in Sebastian. It's spread across a stretch of A1A and a stretch of Indian River Drive, and the drive between them is the trip. Plan for a car and a loose morning rather than a walkable museum district.

Where the shipwreck story actually lives

Two of the museums sit inside Sebastian Inlet State Park, on the barrier island about twenty minutes from town. The McLarty Treasure Museum tells the story of the 1715 Spanish fleet lost off this coast, which is where the Treasure Coast got its name. It stands on A1A a couple of miles south of the inlet bridge. The Sebastian Fishing Museum, the park's other interpretive building, is the one families underrate: it keeps commercial fishing gear and a replica of an old fish house and dock, and it commemorates the Judah, Sembler and Smith families who ran the fish houses here. Admission to the Fishing Museum is free, but you still pay to enter the park, so budget for that at the gate.

The inlet itself is the reason to stay all day. It's one of the few places where the Indian River Lagoon meets the Atlantic, and the park spans both sides. The fishing pier, hiking trails and the tide pool kids actually like are on the north side; the campground and the better surf are south.

Back on the mainland, the history is open-air. The Sebastian Area Historical Museum occupies the 1927 public school on Main Street, with rooms given over to Pelican Island, the Ais, fishing, agriculture and the early trades. On Indian River Drive you'll find the Archie Smith Wholesale Fish Company, a fish house on the National Register, and Fisherman's Landing, a working-waterfront site where the commercial-fishing story comes with fresh Indian River seafood. The paved river walk along the Drive runs about a mile and a half past a row of waterfront bars and restaurants, and is the cheapest good hour of the trip. Mel Fisher's Treasures museum sits on that same stretch; check its hours before you build a day around it.

If birds are on the list, Pelican Island National Wildlife Refuge is an easy add-on rather than a separate expedition. The public access is off the Historic Jungle Trail, a few miles south of the inlet along A1A, so it pairs naturally with a McLarty morning.

The three that sleep eight

All three take eight guests, all three are single-family homes in Sebastian, and all three take pets. The differences are in how the eight actually live.

Sebastian Serenity - 3BR/2BA home near beaches is newly built, and it's the one with beds that suit a group of mixed ages: a king in the master with its own bath, a queen in the second room, and a queen bunk with a twin trundle in the third. Kids in the bunk room, adults with doors that shut. It's minutes from a boat ramp, which matters if your maritime history includes getting out on the river yourself. Nine reviews so far, and a perfect score across them.

Sebastian Serenity- A Heated Pool Home is the one to look at if your group skews adult. King master with en-suite, queens in the other two rooms, and a screened patio with the pool at the centre of it. The listing is explicit that the pool is heated and that the cost of heating it is built into the rate, which is the kind of detail people only discover in January when it isn't. There's a fire pit in the garden too, which is a better place to end a museum day than a television.

Sunkissed Haven has a king and two queens with a sleeper sofa in the living room, a private heated pool, and a whirlpool tub and rain shower off the master. One guest bedroom has a desk in it, which is the quiet reason this house gets long bookings. It also keeps a bicycle, so the river walk doesn't have to mean parking twice. Seventy reviews, the most of our three-bedroom Sebastian houses.

Six guests, and why Paradise Bliss is built differently

Paradise Bliss! Heated Pool NearBoat Ramp & Beach caps at six, and the bedrooms explain why: king master with its own shower, a queen, and two twins. Two couples and two kids, or one family with room to spare. The split floor plan puts the master on its own side of the house.

What makes it the obvious pick for anyone travelling with small children is the gear already in the house. A crib, a high chair, children's dinnerware, toys, blackout curtains, board games and books, plus beach essentials so you're not buying a bucket and a chair on day one. The heated pool is screened. The house sits next to the Indian River Lagoon with boat launches close by.

If your group is seven or eight, this house is out regardless of how well it suits you otherwise. If your group includes a toddler, nothing else in Sebastian is stocked this specifically.

A quick way to choose

  • Kids who need their own room, adults who want theirs: Sebastian Serenity - 3BR/2BA home near beaches, for the bunk-and-trundle third bedroom and the en-suite master.
  • Three couples, or a group who'll want the pool warm in winter: Sebastian Serenity- A Heated Pool Home. Heating is included in the rate, and there's a fire pit for the evening.
  • A longer stay, or someone working a day or two: Sunkissed Haven, for the desk in the guest room and the bike.
  • A family with a baby or a toddler: Paradise Bliss, for the crib, high chair and beach kit already on site. Six guests maximum.
  • Nine or more in the party: stop looking at three-bedroom homes. Pristine Newly Heated Pool Home Centrally Located has four bedrooms and a split floor plan, though it also sleeps eight, so it buys you separation rather than extra heads.

Cooking, which you'll do more of than you think

Museum days here run short. McLarty and the Fishing Museum are both compact, the park eats the rest of the daylight, and you come back sandy at four with nobody wanting to change clothes for dinner. Every one of these four houses has a full kitchen with cooking basics, a dishwasher, an outdoor dining area and barbecue utensils, which is why we stock them that way.

Three of them keep wine glasses: Sunkissed Haven, Sebastian Serenity- A Heated Pool Home and Paradise Bliss. Sunkissed Haven also has a mini fridge and a laundromat nearby. All four have a washer and dryer, which does the real work on a week with beach towels in it.

Buy fish on the river. Fisherman's Landing on Indian River Drive sells what comes out of the Indian River, and grilling it on the patio after an afternoon at the inlet is a better evening than most restaurant tables.

Booking, and the few things to confirm

These are locally managed homes, and booking direct with us means no platform in the middle. Self check-in, fast Wi-Fi, fully stocked kitchens, and someone reachable at any hour if the pool heater sulks or the gate code misbehaves. We clean to a hotel standard, which in Florida mostly means the kitchen is the test.

Two things to settle on the booking page rather than here, because both move: current rates and minimum stays for your dates, and the rental agreement, ID verification and security-deposit step some of these homes require before arrival instructions go out. It's a short process on a secure web page, not an app, and it also opens a guest portal with the house details and our own local list.

Museum hours and park gate times change seasonally. Check them the week you travel, not the month you book.
